I have collected my car already... At least life has re-acquired some form of normalcy once again which is a relief, and that explains the blog title. The car repair was done quite well, as they had to change the entire door, also, the damaged rear area was cut out and replaced too. Total cost hovered within the region of around $4,000 plus and that will now be taken up with the other insurance, subject to the success of the 3rd party claim.
Birthday was great, and I fully made use of my birthday off. Started a tad early with a late night gaming session with JC friends at Katong, having a blast killing undead zombies and vice versa. The actual day wax spent with dear at the zoo which was fun, marred slightly by working calls in the middle which ended a little hot tempered. Anyway, putting aside work, the zoo might not have changed much but it has revamped itself with new shows, making it more interesting. It was a tiring day and when we left the zoo, we were physically drained and just nua-ed at bukit timah sixth avenue.
Dinner was at Brazil Churrascaria. An overly meat indulgent meal specially chosen for me, it was just the place for a meat feast. Many various cuts / styles of meat to try and for the adventurous, chicken hearts and livers. To be honest, the normal style of meats were more than enough for me and it admittedly was a little meat excessive. We enjoyed ourselves, but probably not going to re-visit the place any time soon.
so Life’s Back to Normal
The first day started off with a mild hitch, the flight was delayed by around an hour. Luckily for us, Changi Airport had enough to keep us busy till then. Not much problems when we arrived at Denpasar Airport. It looked very dated, but it had a somewhat resort style feel to it. We hitched a cab from the Airport Taxi Stand to our hotel at around 105k RP. A guy helped us with the luggage to the taxi and he asked for a tip, which was the one and only tip I gave in Bali. After checking in, we explored the coast of Benoa, turned out that although it was presumably famous for water sports, there were hardly any going on in the late afternoon. We had a lunch at a push cart stall, of Bakso, a meatball-beehoon soup which was not too bad. Soon after, we quickly headed to Uluwatu temple to catch the sunset and Kecak dance. It was a nice view of the sunset and the dance was unique. It was a mini play telling the story of the Hindu Monkey God and it was a full house. We hitched the same taxi to Jimbaran Bay for seafood dinner on the beach. It definitely had the ambience and with great company, it made for a very enjoyable dinner! The restaurant was the typical pick your own seafood and cooked in the desired style, the difference and the fun was in having the sand at your feet, the starlit skies above and the cool ocean breeze.
The second day, we met up with our hired driver, Made Kasa, whom we paid 500k RP to bring us around for 12 hours. Our first stop was Temple Taman Ayun. Next we went to Lake Bratan which had a temple there as well. It turned out that the Balinese are very religious, and their religion of choice was Hindu as opposed to the rest of Indonesia, interesting. We stopped at a nearby market for shopping and it was quite good actually, we got some cheap food and buys. I got cheated for a pair of slippers though, bought it for 50k RP and later found it selling at a supermarket for around 30k RP only. The 50k RP was after bargaining for a period of time too, with the stallowner initially quoting 150k RP. sheesh, haha. Next, we went on to Jatiluwih Rice Terraces. It was huge, with the rice fields spreading across acres of land and looked neverending. On the way to Tanah Lot, we stopped at another temple, famous for hosting many monkeys and fruit bats. Once again, another temple, not much to say about them, and I guess one should really visit when there is a ceremony going on else it is pretty much the same. Last stop for the day was Tanah Lot. We had wanted to time it for sunset but it was pretty early. Tanah Lot is located on the coast and part of the structure was isolated away on a separate cliff. We asked the driver to stop us at Legian / Kuta for dinner and some shopping as well. We explored the streets of Kuta and it was chock full of surfers and tourists. Very different from the place we stayed with definitely a more lively buzz. Taxis were honking at us at every opportunity to see if we wanted a ride and it was quite irritating but one does learn to ignore them. We had dinner at Kopi Pot and great food here. Besides, there was free WIFI and cheers to Pfingo, as we used the opportunity to make internet calls back home.
For the 3rd day, we woke up to soak in the suns at our hotel beach area. Turned out that the water sports took place in the morning and business was good. We ended up utilizing one near our hotel, who charged us 200k RP for a 15 min jet-ski ride which we took up. With that, we explored the coasts of Benoa until the guy called us back. Our hotel had a somewhat private beach with deck chairs and towels available which made it very convenient. No worries on security as well. We lunched at a nearby restaurant before returning to the hotel for a quick nap as I was not feeling too good after the morning activities. The hotel had a free shuttle to the Nusa Dua Bali Collection, a high end shopping mall village in Nusa Dua. It was a bit too upmarket and not very interesting. Just countless shops selling Polo Ralph stuff. We did a quick exploration before hailing a cab back to Kuta for shopping and dinner. Not much stuff to buy here, mainly beach / surf-related items and we went to sit by the Kuta beach to catch the sunset. There were neverending group of people coming up to us offering beach mats, temp tattoos, ice cream etc, really quite irritating actually. We ended up watching one guy having his surfing lessons and it was pretty interesting to see how they learnt and we cheered when he finally was able to stand for sometime. Well, the next time we come Bali, we will be coming back to try out the surfing. For dinner we ate at Kafe Dulang, famous for their Soto Ayam, which was quite nice. We walked around abit more and bought tidbits to bring back to Singapore. We ended up at Ocean Beach Club for drinks before heading back to the hotel. I can’t exactly remember what drink it was but the so-called drink of the century, some martini concoction was terrible!
The final day saw us crawling out of bed early at around 5:30am to catch the sunrise. It was fun! From seeing the gentle glow as the sun creeps up to the brilliant hue that it cast on the sky. We continued to laze by the beach and the pool till around 9 before heading back to our room to prepare to check out. Gosh, before we knew it, we were back in Denpasar and awaiting for our flight back to Singapore, which guess what, was delayed by an hour as well. Haha…
visiting Bali
We went for dinner at Kim Choo’s Kitchen, a peranakan place at Katong. The very local cuisine was meant to re-introduce my tastebuds back to food here after a week of being overseas. It was our first time there, and it looks pretty authentic, with the traditional Nyonya decor and what look like antiques there.
la comida es deliciosa (the food is delicious)… although it was a tad saltish.
We had stewed pork, chicken buah kelak, assam pedas and all relatively big portions for 2. The assam pedas reminded me of the one we had at Changi Shore restaurant, but for a fraction of the cost. I shall attempt to bring my grandma here for dinner soon. Also, there’s no GST or service charge, so that’s a good 17% discount already. Hmm… shall try to bring my grandma here for dinner soon. Anyway, need to find an alternative for parking, my usual place beside Katong Mall has raised its rate and was annoyed to see that they don’t even have any grace period. zzz…
I have been up since 1am. Gah, I slept from ard 1030 till 1 so I did get some rest but I can’t seem to sleep back. I am starting to feel sleepy now but I am suppose to go to work, sheesh. :(
home Sweet Home
¡Yo hablo un poco de español!
Anyway, this has been a good weekend. Cleared most of my things-to-do list at home, and some of it at work. I coughed out some time to exercise, catch up on anime, spend quality time with my dear, and oh... managed to catch the Dark Knight, which is a very good movie I must add. The movie progressed at a very good pace, constantly capturing my attention despite the late screening. Even on the 2nd week of screening, it was still packing in the crowds, forcing us to once again sit in the first few rows, straining my eyes and necks for the movie, but it was worth it. The best thing I like about the movie? The realism of it all. It contrasts very much from other Superhero movies as the violence is very much believable, and this makes the movie all the more sombre and gripping.
just Another Weekend
Basically 4 cars were in mind, the toyota axio, the honda civic, the hyundai avante and the mitsubishi ex. The first one off the list was the axio, the looks just did not appeal to me. I was seriously contemplating the civic despite its price. I guess for the civic, the 1.8L features were really a class above and I could only settle for the 1.6L one due to my COE. Furthermore the only stock available was the display model. That particular model's condition just wasn't very good and hence, shall not pay so much for a seemingly 'second hand' car. That left 2 choices and between the 2, despite the lancer more aggressive and popular image, the avante just appealed to me after the test drive and it met all my requirements for a car. So after one long hassle that has stretched months, I swapped the more popular 'H' for the slanted one but yet, still happy that I had a second chance to change cars.
So after putting pen to paper, a day of popping in and out of showrooms and various test drive cars was not about to end yet. This final stop was way out of my league. It was a hellish ride, and think I crashed at almost every turn haha... We had headed over to Comcentre, where Singtel had staged a F1 simulator and I think it is still not really hyped up at the moment as the place was rather empty except for their rather enthusiastic staff. It was a good experience, it is really uncomfortable to be seated in the car for long. To think that for such an expensive car, can't they look into making it more comfortable for the driver. Oh well, F1 is coming to town, and looks like I gotta work on those days!car Buying

Went to Seah Street Deli for dinner last night.. my surname leh, must support. Haha.. very American diner like, even to the detail of not having chili sauce on the table (only ketchup and mustard).. had to specially request for a bottle haha.. Food was good, me being the burger fan, was quite pleased with it! Oh, Reuben, Chong, some other guy + their families were sitting behind us, they are doing the same job as me, albeit 6 years older, and the crossroads of leaving/staying in the organisation. Wah, still so on to meet up for dinner and maybe a few years down the road, I will be in their shoes! Didn't really get to eavesdrop on their conversation but at the start heard some engineering comment, gosh.. that was abit extreme.

Anyway, after dinner went to watch "The Campaign to confer the Public Service Star on JBJ". A political satire about that JBJ, a fictitious figure instead of the real one, but yet, it was still a tongue in cheek way of poking fun at how Singaporeans are still very much afraid of getting involved with the opposition. It was a good play, with the 2nd half being more serious and much better, yet, felt the plot was abit weak at times due to the links between acts perhaps a tad weak. Guess the interesting part was seeing how the old and new civil service contrast, and bringing in the media, the law and how the fear of each other as well as the countless red tapes was apt considering that I'm part of the system as well.
Anyway, something was wrong with the air conditioning of the place, became very fidgety as it was rather stuffy and wasn't really able to concentrate on the show too! Or maybe hmm, just not used to sitting down for long.. hoho.. Oh well, end of the month, another concert, but that one doesn't involve sitting, holy wars, here I come =)
the Campaign
double Movie Day
and this time around, got a surprise from jiali as she got me 13 little things on the day I took leave to watch Harry Potter =). Well, this erm, once upon a time "unlucky" day, is fast becoming a day to look forward to on the calendar! Thank you for remembering this special day and celebrating it with me!
Caught Harry Potter, an afternoon screening with all the JC / sec school students.. hmm.. felt different, as have not watched shows at this time for awhile? See all the JC students going out after lessons in a big group kinda reminds me of my JC days where we were we foolishly dragged to watch those chick flicks... or were those during the hols hmm.. oh well, we were always kings of wasting time, and could easily spend a day after school not doing anything =)
Anyway, liked the show.. looking forward to the book even more! It should be released soon and well, curious about finding out who ends up with who and who dies!
another "Unlucky" Day
to tell when its time for tea break..
to zao before the school sergeant major comes around to scold us..
to help ensure that i will be early when meeting jiali..

Thanks for getting me a watch to help keep track of time.. and of course, looking at it definitely will remind me of you! (Not like I ever needed something to remind me, haha) It's my birthday present, that's cool and most importantly, looks great on me! Been using it very often in office nowadays, always waiting for time to pass as hours drag by slowly, but to be honest, these few days its getting much better and definitely less of a drag now. Guess as time pass, we get used to it, the normal daily routine and accustomed to life as such. Hmm.. is that a bad thing?
telling Time

With that, we headed to Basil Alcove, located near bugis, which serves fine dining at cheap prices, albeit in an outdoor, a bit kopi tiam like seating, but it wasn't all that bad, and still quite comfortable. We had been trying to check out this restaurant for hmm, at least 3 times now, so Yes! We finally managed to come. Food presentation was top class, taste was good also, but there were certain stuff which might be considered weird and perhaps we aren't exactly receptive to some of them. So.. thanks for the meal! ~ Gochiso-sama desu!

a Special 9th
The irritating one would be Wired-Destinations (I always mis-spell it as Weird, hmm, foreshadowing in progress), they had an unbelievable offer on their website which tempted us to go ahead to book, however I went to read up on a couple of reviews of their service and it wasn't entirely encouraging, but decided to try it still. As the reviews had stated, they were not able to fulfill their promised rates and returned with a new rate which was almost 3x higher. I guess using cheap rates to advertise isn't a new and that bad a thing, but what irritated me was that they had already billed my card and that could lead to some potential hassle, but luckily and to their credit, they did reply my cancel request very promptly and everything is settled. Just take their promotion rates with a pinch of salt.
Botanical Gardens, mosquito haven. Wow, its actually really big. Didn't really had time to walk around and by nightfall, it was really sleeping time for the trees with very dim lighting and couldn't really see much then. And our National Flower really stinks. The other areas don't smell so bad! Looking forward to going there again when I have fully recovered and in better conditions.
4K! Oh, people who haven't watched Spiderman, do yourself a favour and get the 4K digital tickets, from Golden Village, even if you are NOT a quality freak, why shortchange yourself when such a wonderful screening is available, to quote - unquote from Mr Brown, can even see the arm hairs on Mary Jane. Yup, Venom was quite nicely done in the movie, with that swirly tongue and all, felt he was a little short though, as compared to the comic Eddie Brock but Venom did looked big and menacing, just a bit unlucky in the vertical sense. So do yourself and me a favour by getting the 4K tickets, then can brag to me how awesome it really is, so I can eagerly await my next big - screen experience!
Kickoff! Beeepp! New (old) vices all around! Am I growing old? In the sense that not playing new games but revisiting old ones, erm like Dota, Winning Eleven, Curse of Monkey Island, hmm! Gosh, the newest game there is like 2-3 years old. Haha... what about Command & Conquer 3, recently out! Getting quite good reviews, but why no excitement from my part? Hmm. Anyway, old games are still classic, and online multiplayer is always fun. (I have used the words old/new a total of 10 times in this paragraph, note to self: GET A FREAKING THESAURUS.) Anyway, back to topic, when's our next kickoff?
the Trueblue Holidayer
Without further digress about work, we went to Jurong Hill today, where what lies on top is this Japanese and Indonesian Hilltop Restaurant, and yes, the name is indeed so boringly creative. Well, its a nice place, and shall just let the pictures speak for themselves, a different style today.

Well, that marks the end of this 'unlucky day'. The view from Jurong Hill overlooks that of the Pier and all the industrial sites, and it was still busying itself with traffic and life at night. It was a place that had seemed to come to a standstill in the 80s as the world moved along. The lookout tower itself was old but still sturdy, with a spiral path upwards, very similar to those spiral carparks which I am no big fan of. It also had a beautiful stained glass decoration at the top with bright green colours and despite the brunt of old age, still looked very good. I wonder if it would look better if the sun was brighter, hmm.
As for the restaurant, it had a nostalgic theme, hmm it probably wasn't a theme, rather just that it hasn't change since then. The 80s era was obvious from the lighting, wallpaper, paintings and even the waitress looks like they have been there since then! It gave off a very quaint and yet, captivating feel and it was a pleasant experience. They don't have an authentic Japanese chef, instead it was a Chinese national, but no complains about the food, pricing is also very very reasonable, just that eating at the Teppanyaki table leaves one with a buttery garlic smell.
happiest Friday The 13th

Guess what, all the birds here can be found in a home at Siglap, well shall just call it the Siglap Bird Park I suppose, and no, its not my home although I do have my fair share of feathered species. Its a personal property, but with many varieties of birds, and different varieties, for example the parrots were like blue, red, yellow, green, and very very nice. Don't have their pictures as the place was all fenced up sadly and not so nice to take pictures of someone home especially with the maid on the balcony looking down.
Ah shucks, can't see much, but there's the baby flamingo and some pigeon-peacock lookalike! Anyway, it was an eventful day, and just food alone was lots, with tau kwa pao (not tau pok!) katong laksa, katong shopping centre cheesecake which ivy intro-ed last time, Bedok's Corner 夜来香 cheng teng which is supposedly famous too and now we shall remember it for its mind reader stall owner who can predict our purpose in buying cheng teng, (for my grandma). And finally a visit to Ken's Noodle House, taking like a short foray into a mini Jap Restaurant for authentic ramen, which wasn't too bad, and the clientele was largely japanese so that does go quite abit in advertising for its authencity. Tiring day!
birds Of The Wild - revisited
Well, of pastries and pancakes, symbolizing the death and birth of a week. Last week ended off nicely, with a lazy Sunday breakfast followed by lazing around, walking, watching Heroes…
When so many other things are buzzing around, its nice to stop and relax, take a breather (but lots of such breaks have been taken). It was then chocolate chip pancakes, never tried such a combination before which was pretty tasty.
On Wednesday, felt like a runaway train, and the train didn't get too far either, terminating at 西天娘娘, hope she wasnt too annoyed :S. Well if any, blame it on the latte? Rusty fingers doesn’t help when I’m on a coffee high, sigh, coffee really have terrible effects on me. Sometimes its ok, and I get a positive buzz from it? And sometimes its just messes with my stomach / mood / tired and more. Shall really try to abstain. Abstain with all my lion strength =).
Coming to the end of the week at least for me! Thursday marks the end of it, Friday a break and shall probably use the weekend to clear up my FYP thesis finally. And oh, I was talking to Jiali about my grandma egg dishes and as I came home for dinner.. steamed egg!
pancakes, Guitars and Eggs
madness? This is Sparta!
How about you, you, you?
You can come too, too, too
Were goin to the zoo, zoo, zoo..."
Happy song for a happy day, end of this "doesn't feel like term break" term break marks a special visit to the zoo. Having not gone there since like primary school, couldn't really remember how the zoo once was and it was very much a fresh new experience, albeit limited as well, zoos are still zoos :) How different can they get!

At the entrance.. Parrots! I think I remembered correctly though it might be a bit weird, but seems like quite a number of Singapore Attractions are fronted by parrots at the entrance, namely the Zoo, Bird Park (duh), Sentosa. I don't recall such a scenario in overseas Zoos or places, hmm. Trying to show off the tropical aspect of Singapore? Anyway, they are pretty pretty birds, these bunch were quite quiet though, despite the efforts of a number of kids coaxing them to say the usual "Hello!".

Monkey see... monkey do...
monkeys in the zoo
pat fishes and feed them too =)
It was feeding time and as the monkeys got food from the keeper, it seems to feed some to the fishes below and what appeared to be stroking them! I don't think monkeys actually eat fishes now, do they?
going To The Zoo
Buildup to the day was hectic but still very much fun, really must thank Andy and Linghuey for helping me with the ideas / settings / and keeping me company as we go about shopping!
But definitely no thanks to the weird kinky ideas that were suggested. No, I am not the sort that favours whips and candles.
But I did get some candles in the end for a more romantic setting. Didn't know how to place the candles initially and yep, Andy gave me the idea of floating them in water and it was by chance that I had such a nice transparent ice bucket at home. So off we go on a photo jaunt of the most exclusive restaurant in my books.. il ristorante a edgedale (name changes depending on cuisine)
And finally, present exchange time! wee =) I was serenaded by songs played by a lovely pianist - couldn't ask for more.
fifty-Two Days & Counting
Amidst preparation for FYP and recovering from a mile hangover, I can't missed out on celebrating our one month anniversary or 1st Monthsary.
On the hangover, was out clubbing the night before at St James. I'm really a noob to the whole clubbing scene and this is my virgin visit to St James. The alcohol was showing its effect on my stomach and didn’t agree totally with whatever I put in. Irritating but wasn’t too bad. Helps cut down on my calorie intake after the long night out.
I met Jiali later to celebrate our 1 month anniversary, I was feeling quite lousy (remaining alcohol effect) so we ended up having something quiet / light instead.
We already had all the noise the night before! Went back to the place where we got together 1 month ago, Delifrance @ Anchorpoint, it's never going to be the same again. She got me such a cute present, the DHS Alumni doll, haha, so symbolic of us in such a way, and a story book that chronicles our well, first moments :). Time really flies, doesn't it, it really emphasize how much we need to seize the moment.
